Mercator was engaged by the two main Puget Sound port authorities, providing strategic advisory services to help inform their decision-making processes about how best to position the leading Pacific Northwest regional gateway in the face of increased competition for discretionary intermodal cargo. Mercator developed strategic terminal infrastructure/capacity assessments, volume and vessel deployment forecasts, evaluations of hinterland connectivity by terminal, and P&L forecasts. Mercator participated and presented in numerous joint commission sessions, and provided independent analysis and perspectives to help the two sets of commissioners and port senior executives in their consolidation into the Northwest Seaport Alliance.
